About the Role

A Patient Service Floater supports daily phlebotomy activities at Patient Service Centers (PSC) or as an In-office Patient Service Technician (PST), ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection. This role requires travel to assist with coverage at client locations within a designated region, often with short notice.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to client assignments within a designated region on short notice.
  • Greet and interact with customers and patients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Collect specimens (e.g., blood, urine, fecal) accurately and on time, following established procedures.
  • Explain the specimen collection process clearly to reduce patient anxiety and ensure a calm environment.
  • Dispose of biohazard fluids, tissues, and contaminated sharps in compliance with laws, standards, and policies.
  • Complete requisitions accurately in Pathconnect or other PathGroup computer applications.
  • Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into the computer with attention to detail.
  • Communicate with clients to verify orders, tests, and billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN).
  • Research test and client information using the lab computer system.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper labeling and adherence to protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Maintain required records, logs, and daily documentation.
  • Compile monthly statistics and data; perform basic clerical duties (e.g., filing, faxing, mail preparation).
  • Approve time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period.
  • Submit accurate expense and travel logs on Monday for the prior week or as directed by management.
  • Adhere to departmental and company dress code and grooming policies, including wearing a lab coat.
  • Manage fluctuating patient flow efficiently and professionally.
  • Display courteous and professional behavior toward clients, patients, and coworkers.
  • Answer the telephone in a friendly and helpful manner, incorporating company name and self-identification.
  • Perform duties independently and communicate pertinent issues to supervisors for resolution.
  • Maintain a positive work climate and contribute to team efforts.
  • Ensure facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair; report maintenance needs to supervisors.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages or problems.
  • Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure safety and adhere to lab procedures.
  • Protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and sensitive company data.
  • Comply with the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
  • Collaborate with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
