Essential Functions

  • Registers or Pre-registers all scheduled patients for admission, partial hospitalization, and outpatient services.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorization for all services that requires authorization, pre-certification, and/or referral.
  • Coordinates with patients and scheduling departments to reschedule procedures until authorization or patient payment can be arranged.
  • Requests upfront payment of deposits from responsible party.
  • Updates schedule for cancellations, rescheduling, and other changes on an ongoing basis.
  • Fills critical short term vacancies in designated areas.
  • Registers and interviews patients, completes pre-admissions, and ensures information accuracy.
  • Handles routine patient inquiries and issues.
  • Works closely with other areas including departments and physician offices.
  • Greets patients and processes them through to the appropriate area.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently requires walking from different areas.
  • Must be able to push a wheelchair with patient in it and maneuver through doors, up/down ramps and elevators.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to medical STATS and emergencies.
  • Requires sitting frequently.
  • Must be able to lift 20-50 pounds occasionally.
  • Works in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Accurate spelling and attention to detail required.
  • Must be able to key 40 wpm.
  • Knowledge of patient registration, insurance, and hospital billing preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and understanding of third party reimbursement preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer services skills required.

Pay Range $22.00 - $22.00
