Patient Service Representative

Department: St. Joseph Medical Group • Full Time • Days • 8-hour shifts, 7:30am – 4:00pm • St. Joseph Medical Center - Kansas City, MO

Responsibilities

• Interviews the patient or their representative to obtain identifying and basic demographics to prepare for upcoming visits.
• Schedules patients in their clinic and assists with scheduling in other departments.
• Schedules patients for radiology appointments as requested by providers.
• Processes referrals and schedules patients accordingly.
• Verifies insurance coverage, collects co-pays and prior balances from patients, reconciles and prepares deposits, and troubleshoots billing issues.
• Greets and checks in patients, handles all incoming phone calls, and routes them to appropriate staff or initiates messages.
• Coordinates clinic business processes such as supply ordering, sales calls, record release, fax, and mail processing.
• Operates a computer to accurately input and retrieve data.
• Communicates with patients, staff, and providers using age-specific techniques.
• Maintains proficiency in medical terminology.
• Projects a positive and helpful attitude.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in a medical setting, required.
• Customer service experience required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Knowledge of EPIC EHR is preferred.
