Patient Safety Companion

Area of Interest: Patient Care | FTE/Hours per pay period: 0.6 | Department: Nursing Admin – Downtown | Shift: Days 7 am‑7:30 pm

Overview

Patient Safety Companion – UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's – Sioux City. Part‑time (24 hours per week) with a schedule of days 7 am‑7:30 pm, rotating weekends and holidays. Provides continuous observation and monitoring of patients at risk of self‑harm, wandering, or injury to ensure a safe, therapeutic environment and support delivery of care. Under the direction of a care team member, monitors and documents patient behavior, and redirects or de‑escalates as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Ensure patient safety by providing a safe environment.
• Assist patients with routine activities.
• Coordinate care with appropriate hospital personnel.
• Document implementation of safety protocols.
• Demonstrate UnityPoint Health values and standards of behavior, adhering to policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience: None required.
• License(s)/Certification(s): None required.
