About the role
This position interviews patients in person, at their workstation, or at the bedside to obtain all necessary account information in a fast-paced and complex clinical environment. Responsibilities include communicating effectively with patients and their families, navigating them through the registration process, explaining and completing insurance policies and healthcare benefits.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with patients and their families to obtain necessary account information
- Navigate patients through the registration process, insurance policies, and healthcare benefits
- Ensure patient brochures/registration documents are presented, explained, and completed accurately
- Utilize appropriate resources and applications to accurately assign insurance plans, perform insurance eligibility and discovery activities, generate patient estimates, collect patient co-payments, co-insurances, and deductibles
- Identify patients without insurance and provide financial assistance information, making referrals to patient financial advocates when appropriate
- Provide high-level customer service and maintain a professional presence to present a positive impression of Summa Health
Requirements
- One (1) year experience performing customer service or general office support experience in any industry preferred
- Experience in Registration, Insurance Verification/Pre-Certification, Financial counseling, Patient Accounts a plus
Qualifications
- Formal education required: High school diploma or equivalent
- Post high school level coursework in healthcare, accounting, business, public relations or related field preferred
- Knowledge of keyboard with high accuracy and Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Demonstrated communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to function in a fast-paced and complex clinical environment
- Interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients, families, and clinical co-workers in crisis or trauma situations
- Problem-solving skills and ability to recommend solutions
- Ability to document registration information in designated computer software applications in a timely and accurate manner
- Ability to work well within a team environment by offering and accepting honest and constructive feedback, supporting team goals, encouraging and mentoring fellow team members
- Ability to be highly motivated, work independently, make decisions, and work in a fast-paced stressful environment
- Knowledge of all departmental downtime applications and processes

Schedule
Part-time, 24 hours per week, 3pm-11pm, every other weekend and holiday rotation
