About the role
Responsible for timely collection, validation, and entry of all demographic and insurance information necessary to support accurate billing for emergency department services. Provides excellent customer service, ensures regulatory compliance, and performs related duties to facilitate effective patient care.
Schedule
- 36 hours weekly
- 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
- Every other weekend and holiday required
Responsibilities
- Follow established department guidelines to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of patient registrations in the emergency department.
- Greet all customers, including patients, family members, and visitors in a caring and professional manner.
- Conduct “mini-registration” of non-trauma patients upon arrival, consisting of collecting name, obtaining and scanning photo identification, and reason for visit.
- Function as receptionist and direct patients and visitors; provide visitor passes.
- Use the ED Tracker system functionality appropriately.
- Demonstrate knowledge of facility regulations regarding visitors.
- Register patients by collecting and entering accurate demographic and insurance information, including verification of certain insurance types.
- Perform registration of patients using a computer cart on wheels in patient rooms.
- Ensure all pertinent identification is scanned into the EMR and document imaging system (e.g., photo identification, insurance card(s)).
- Maintain a solid working knowledge of third-party specifics relative to the Emergency Department to reduce financial risk and maximize delivery of care.
- Perform clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and transfer using the system.
- Determine insurance eligibility status using electronic data exchanges/third-party eligibility websites.
- Determine and collect guarantor payments (co-payments) due at time of service, when permissible.
- Obtain all necessary signatures on treatment and financial consents.
- Manage communication in the various areas of the Emergency Department using proper telephone etiquette.
- Provide customer service and wayfinding by assisting patients, family, and visitors as needed.
- Serve as a liaison to ancillary departments by completing STAT registrations as needed, including but not limited to bloodwork for kidney transplant.
- Assist in providing registration workflow training for newly hired department caregivers.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Two years' experience in a medical, financial, or customer service environment.
- Experience in a patient care environment preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Pay
Hourly pay range: $19.84 – $29.76. This range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on individual factors including skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
