Job Summary

Provides support to all intensive services at Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital- UCSF Health, including Inpatient, Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient Program, consult Liaison, and Electroconvulsive Therapy. Responsible for reception, registration, insurance verification, financial information, and patient processing.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Navigation and Processing:
    • Communicates LPPHC administrative and financial policies clearly to patients.
    • Addresses patient complaints related to billing and insurance.
    • Verifies insurance benefits and coverage.
    • Secures prior authorizations for procedures and ancillary services.
    • Collects and verifies insurance and referral/authorization information.
    • Works with work queues to secure estimate letters and respond to denials.
    • Coordinates with Hospital Admissions Department for complex insurance authorizations.
  • Patient Information and Coordination:
    • Manages patient expectations by providing insurance QOB guidelines.
    • Obtains appropriate consents and documents at first visit.
    • Maintains a professional and positive first impression.
    • Adheres to patient confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines.
  • General Patient Navigator Tasks:
    • Liaises between patients and services.
    • Coordinates care among various services.
    • Traiges urgent matters and follows up with patients.
    • Maintains good working relationships with staff and patients.
  • Utilization Review Tasks:
    • Communicates with third-party payers for authorization of care.
    • Facilitates clinical denial and appeal processes.
    • Documents all communications with payers and clinicians.
    • Coordinates clinical and non-clinical resources based on patients' diagnoses.
    • Identifies patients' preferences and barriers to treatment plans.

Qualifications

  • One year related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience/training.

Additional Information

This position requires flexibility to work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
