Patient Financial Services Representative
About the role
Responsible for managing and resolving high volumes of accounts for services provided by Essentia Health. Acts as the primary contact or liaison for patients to discuss outstanding statements and resolve inquiries in a timely manner. Provides efficient and accurate support for insurance, coding, registration, financial assistance, and other billing-related issues to resolve outstanding patient accounts.
Provides financial assistance via face-to-face communication and over the telephone using automated phone technology. Performs routine account analysis to evaluate, develop, and implement action plans with patients to resolve financial responsibilities. Position requires follow-up with delinquent accounts and payment plans, collection of patient accounts, and may include telephone contact or follow-up on collections with letters. Position may handle incoming patient mail with the potential to respond to inquiries via written communication.
Responsibilities
- Manage and resolve high volumes of patient accounts
- Act as primary contact for patients regarding outstanding statements and inquiries
- Provide support for insurance, coding, registration, and billing-related issues
- Offer financial assistance through face-to-face and telephone communication
- Perform account analysis and develop action plans to resolve financial responsibilities
- Follow up on delinquent accounts and establish payment plans
- Collect patient accounts and conduct telephone or written follow-ups
- Handle incoming patient mail and respond to inquiries in writing
- Process cash payments and self-pay collections
- Utilize office equipment such as computers, software applications, printers, fax machines, copiers, and billing programs
Requirements
- 2 years of experience in Call Center, Collections, Billing, and/or Health Care
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Experience with handling cash payments and self-pay collections

Pay
Compensation range: $18.71 - $28.07 per hour
Schedule
- Full-time (1.0 FTE)
- Shift: Day rotation
- Possible remote/hybrid option
- No weekends, holidays, or call obligations
