About the role

As a Patient Financial Services Representative with Banner Medical Group, you will be an integral part of the patient experience, delivering excellent customer service and patient care. Banner Medical Group provides both primary and specialty care across the communities Banner Health serves, operating in a variety of settings including group practices and multi-specialty centers. This role supports our nonprofit mission of providing excellent patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform registration/check-in processes, including data entry, providing intake forms, obtaining signatures, and generating population health summaries.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for services rendered with payors and document appropriately.
  • Assist in obtaining or validating pre-certification, referrals, and authorizations.
  • Calculate and collect patient liability according to verification of insurance benefits and expected reimbursement.
  • Explain financial policies and available resources for alternative payment arrangements to patients and their families.
  • Enter payments/charges for services rendered and perform daily payment/charge reconciliation accurately and timely.
  • Balance cash drawer at the beginning and end of the day; prepare daily bank deposit with necessary paperwork.
  • Schedule office visits and procedures within the medical practice(s) and external practices as needed, maximizing reimbursement by adhering to payor plan provisions.
  • Confirm patient appointments for the following day and ensure patients are properly prepared for visits.
  • Demonstrate proactive interpersonal communication skills while addressing patient concerns via telephone, email, and in-person conversations.
  • Optimize patient flow by communicating effectively with internal and external customers, care teams, management, centralized services, and HIMS.
  • Respond to requests for patient medical records in accordance with company policies, procedures, and state and federal laws.
  • Provide a variety of patient services to assist in patient flow, including escorting patients, taking vitals and patient history, assisting in treatment, distributing mail and fax information, and ordering supplies.
  • Work independently under regular supervision, following structured routines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment requiring sound judgment and independent decision-making.
  • Maintain knowledge of changing payor information critical to attaining reimbursement for services provided.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • One or more years of experience in patient financial services, financial, collections, or insurance industry processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to interact effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in common office software, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, or BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting serving children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Banner Health’s systems and processes.
  • Previous cash collections experience.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
