This is a remote work-from-home position; must reside in Illinois. Occasional in-office attendance in Peoria will be required for training and rare events.

About the Role

The Patient Financial Navigator ensures each patient has a complete and accurate OSF medical record, including demographics, insurance coverage, responsible guarantor, and precise registration. The role involves explaining services, financial responsibilities, and pre/post-service expectations to patients. Financial education is provided to clarify estimated out-of-pocket expenses and assist with bill pay options. The Navigator educates and supports patients on payment alternatives, grants, programs, and other assistance options.

Responsibilities include determining a patient's payer source, obtaining authorizations, verifying covered benefits, identifying network status, and assisting with billing inquiries. Clear and concise communication with peers, supervisors, payors, physicians, patients, and other departments is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and complete patient medical records, including demographics and insurance details.
  • Educate patients on services, financial responsibilities, and expectations pre/post-service.
  • Provide financial education regarding estimated out-of-pocket expenses and bill pay options.
  • Determine patient payer sources, including obtaining necessary authorizations, referrals, or pre-determinations.
  • Verify if procedures are covered benefits and if payers are in or out of network.
  • Assist patients with billing inquiries and questions on existing invoices.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with various stakeholders, including patients, payors, and physicians.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and one year of customer service/relations experience; or High School Diploma and 2 years' experience in a call center, healthcare, and/or public health setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a healthcare-related field.
  • Experience in patient registration, patient accounts, patient finance, insurance benefits, financial assistance programs, public health, social services, or community-based roles.
  • Experience in medical billing, including working with insurance companies, third-party administrators, and collections, with an emphasis on customer phone contact.
  • Advanced knowledge of CPT4, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifiers.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Pay

Expected pay for this position is $20.21 - $23.77/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity.

Schedule

This is an hourly position.
