Schedule

  • One full-time position (Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

Responsibilities

Responsible for assisting patients in person or on the phone to answer billing questions, resolve complaints, explain itemized charges and collect outstanding patient balances. You will spend 90% of your day speaking with patients.

  • Interview/Screen patients to identify potential resources for payment.
  • Obtain knowledge of state and local program eligibility requirements, which may include Medicaid, Wyoming Cancer programs, Wyoming Crime Victims Assistance, etc.
  • Obtain or update complete insurance information.
  • Review encounters for accuracy.
  • Assist patients with payment arrangements based on department guidelines.
  • Follow up with all newborn Moms to verify their baby is added to their commercial insurance plan or Medicaid as required.
  • Process credit card payments.
  • Utilizes AIDET guidelines and demonstrates excellent customer service.
  • Review daily census and conducts financial discussions and provides information to all in-house patients.
  • Return patient phone calls within 2 days.
  • Documents all actions and interactions with patient in the encounter record.
  • Responds to requests for information from payment vendors and collection agencies.
  • Works assigned Cerner work queues.
  • Assist patients with hospital financial assistance applications and explains required documentation.
  • Receives, places, and transfers calls using appropriate telephone etiquette; handles telephone information requests with courtesy, accuracy and respect for confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General education degree (GED) required.
  • 1 year experience providing excellent customer service.

Skills

  • Ability to deal with patients with sensitivity and compassion.
  • Skills in operation of typical office equipment such as P.C’s, printers, terminals, calculator, FAX, Copiers.
  • Knowledge and experience in using Windows Excel and Word as well as small business applications, and Health Care systems Applications – primary focus on accounting and financial functions.
  • Read, write and comprehend instructions, memos, and correspondence.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly lift or move objects weighing 10 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.
  • The employee is also subject to exposure to blood and body fluids, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives, exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
