Patient Financial Counselors are part of a team who has direct interaction with patients and their families either on the phone or in person. They are responsible for easing the way in resolution of patient accounts through financial clearance, payment collection, obtaining sponsorship, and financial assistance. The Patient Financial Counselor identifies eligibility, provides education, and completes and submits applications for various State and Federal sponsorship programs. They assist patients and make eligibility determinations for Swedish Health Services (SHS) Financial Assistance. Duties and behaviors are performed in a manner that reflects SHS mission, philosophy, and core values.

Responsibilities

  • Direct interaction with patients and their families (phone or in-person).
  • Resolve patient accounts through financial clearance, payment collection, obtaining sponsorship, and financial assistance.
  • Identify eligibility for State and Federal sponsorship programs.
  • Provide education and complete/submit applications for sponsorship programs.
  • Assist patients with eligibility determinations for Swedish Health Services Financial Assistance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two or more years of experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare business office.
  • Two years of experience in an automated, computerized account follow-up system (preferably Epic).

Qualifications

  • Preferred: College coursework.
  • Minimum of three years of experience, or proven success as a Patient Financial Counselor Associate (preferably with Providence St. Joseph Health or its affiliates).
  • Two years of knowledge in reimbursement of healthcare accounts from insurance companies.
  • Two years of previous experience with medical and health plan terminology.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $23.39 - $35.78 per hour. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.

Schedule

  • Full time.
  • Day shift.
