About the role
As a Financial Counselor, you will review the Financial Clearance Worklist daily, visit in-house patients, collect estimated patient liability amounts, explain all financial information and responsibilities, and work closely with outside agencies to ensure patients' financial coverage.
Responsibilities
- Follow AIDET guidelines in all interactions with patients.
- Visit all uninsured in-house patients in conjunction with the Medicaid Eligibility Staff.
- Provide estimates to patients and/or physicians as requested.
- Generate insurance verification and precertification reports daily; follow up with case management and insurance verification departments as appropriate.
- Follow all guidelines set forth in the Cash Handling policy.
- Utilize eligibility systems, online websites, or phone calls to determine insurance benefits and precertification requirements.
- Assist patients with payment arrangements and coordinate with Medicaid Eligibility Staff to help patients with financial applications.
- Contact patient employers, if necessary, for verification of employment, premium status, or babies being added to policies; escalate concerns to Patient Access Manager/Supervisor.
- Enter pertinent insurance information into the HIS system (e.g., Meditech).
- Enter appropriate notes for all patient encounters.
- Maintain a professional image and implement excellent customer service.
- Complete financial analysis and collect estimated patient liabilities.
- Follow up with patients for necessary signatures if incomplete at the time of hospitalization.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1 year of related experience required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
