Job Summary

The Patient Financial Advocate I is responsible for serving as the point of contact for all functions and workflows within Revenue Cycle Pre-Arrival financial management. This caregiver assists patients and families with navigating the patient financial journey through tasks like creating price estimates, counseling on insurance coverage, and arranging payment plans.

Essential Functions

  • Completes workflows of Pre-Arrival patient financial management functions, including financial clearance, patient admission and registration support, financial counseling, and customer service.
  • Ensures timely and accurate completion of financial clearance processes and related workflows.
  • Communicates with patients and families across the organization to identify and understand financial, social, and medical requisites.
  • Gathers relevant information, verifies patient forms, maintains accurate documentation, and processes financial assistance requests.
  • Collaborates with patients, internal, and external customers to identify long-term resources for funding healthcare services.
  • Counsels patients on out-of-pocket liabilities, creates cost of care price estimations, collects financial liabilities, and communicates financial clearance status.
  • Demonstrates follow-up processes to ensure prompt reimbursement and appropriate payment from patients.
  • Manages accounts that are repeatedly delinquent or in non-compliance with payment terms, recommending further collection activity as needed.
  • Practices safe and secure cash handling in accordance with Monument Health policy.
  • Understands and applies core business structures, systems, and best practices within the industry.
  • Communicates financial clearance processes and reimbursement activities to promote a positive work environment.

Required Additional Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED Equivalent in General Studies
  • Experience: 1+ years of Healthcare Administration or Operations Experience; 1+ years Billing/Collections Experience
