Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Perform insurance checks for upcoming Program appointments/services to determine eligibility and benefits coverage
  • Work directly with patients/guarantors on gathering insurance information by telephone and/or face to face when prior information gathered is not correct or is missing
  • Provide cost of care estimates and discuss financial arrangements when needed, and collect the appropriate amount of the patient's deductible and/or max out-of-pocket expenses
  • Inform customers of the Financial Assistance Program if the patient is self-pay or if concerns are expressed
  • Respond to inquiries regarding insurance and/or billing concerns, following up with the appropriate resource as needed
  • Communicate with UR and Patient Account staff regarding billing inquiries
  • Review/complete tickets within the billing workbench as assigned
  • Advocate for coverage when necessary

Specific Skills

  • Basic math and keyboarding skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of health insurance eligibility, benefits, and claims processing
  • Knowledge of Revenue Codes, CPT/HCPCS codes, and diagnosis codes
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to maintain a courteous and respectful manner in difficult or highly charged emotional interactions
