About the Role

The Patient Coordinator performs a variety of customer service and patient care tasks to ensure a positive patient experience. Responsibilities include greeting and assisting patients, managing documentation, and preparing patient records. The role ensures patients clearly understand what to expect during and after their appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and assists patients, customers, and visitors in person and over the phone.
  • Performs patient registration in various systems.
  • Answers phone calls professionally and courteously.
  • May collect payments for time-of-service patient responsibility.
  • May verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorization.
  • Performs preliminary patient screenings, including medical history.
  • May transport patients to/from exam rooms and assist with transfers on/off exam tables.
  • Provides preliminary and post-procedure instructions to patients.
  • In mobile settings, assists in preparing the unit for transport.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area, orders supplies, and ensures proper stocking.
  • Ensures accuracy of patient records and schedules appointments.
  • Obtains insurance verification and/or authorization.
  • Prepares medical records for physicians, patients, and customers.
  • Accurately documents patient visits in electronic systems and written documents.
  • Assists clinical staff with documentation and image delivery.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • For Mobile Radiology and Oncology, CPR Certification must be obtained prior to hire. For Fixed Radiology, CPR Certification is a plus.
  • Valid state driver’s license required, as applicable.
  • Ability to work at multiple locations.
  • Strong customer service, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
  • Local travel may be required to support multiple sites.
  • COVID-19 vaccination may be a condition of employment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screen is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six months of customer service or related experience and/or training.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • May be exposed to outside weather conditions during patient transport (if working on a mobile unit).
  • May be exposed to strong magnetic fields, radioactive material, blood/body fluids, infectious diseases, and environmental hazards such as noise and travel.
  • More than 50% of the time: Sitting, standing, walking, repetitive movement of hands/arms/legs, seeing, speaking, and hearing to communicate with patients.
  • Less than 50% of the time: Stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, balancing, carrying, and lifting (ability to move non-ambulatory patients for transfer or exam).
