About the role

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our dedicated team. ANTHC is a non-profit Tribal health organization serving over 171,000 Alaska Native and American Indian people. We provide comprehensive health services, including medical services, wellness programs, and research initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Observes patients experiencing suicidal ideation, behavioral health issues, or other safety concerns to ensure safety and stability.
  • Recognizes abnormal behavior or changes in behavior and notifies the primary RN.
  • Records and reports all information within scope of knowledge.
  • Conducts regular environmental assessments with the primary nurse to ensure the environment is free of hazards.
  • Maintains cleanliness and safety of a variety of equipment; reports any hazardous equipment and seeks repairs when necessary.
  • Collaborates with personnel in nursing and supportive services to promote respect in delivering patient care.
  • Maintain the daily care of a patient or group of patients; monitor bodily functions; take and record vital signs; transport patients; collect and test physical specimens; measure and record fluid and food intake and output; obtain blood glucose levels, place electrodes and leads for ECG, cardiac monitoring, and telemetry; perform personal care tasks such as bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, toileting, assisting with eating, hydrating, and skin care.
  • Recognizes abnormal signs and symptoms and reports changes to the RN.
  • Adheres to established safety, emergency, and disaster procedures.
  • Change simple, nonsterile dressings using aseptic technique; assist patients with self-medication; suction the oral pharynx; provide tracheostomy care in stable patients; remove internal or external urinary catheters; add fluid to established gastrostomy tube feedings and change established tube feeding bags.
  • Performs clerical duties such as answering phones, completing requisitions, scheduling tests and appointments, scanning and filing reports, ordering supplies, requesting equipment repairs, etc.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of patient care experience for Patient Care Technician II.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of patient care experience for Patient Care Technician III.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures for the care of patients.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of communication skills, both oral and written to interact with patients and families.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Follow established guidelines and procedures.

Additional Requirements

  • According to the needs of the organization, some incumbents may be required to obtain additional specific technical certifications.
