Job Description

Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) support and collaborate with RNs to provide dialysis treatment to several patients at a time. Key responsibilities include:

• Assist in providing patient-specific education regarding dialysis adequacy measures.
• Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their wellbeing.
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and administer heparin.
• Obtain and review pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight.
• Initiate and monitor dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders.
• Document patient responses to dialysis therapy and evaluate vascular access during treatment.
• Ensure proper safety alarms are enabled and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Prepare and organize supplies to prevent wastage.
• Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision.
• Train applicable direct patient care staff on appropriate programs.
• Follow infection control practices and reinforce education for patients and families.
• Support transitional care unit patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis.
• Assist in coordinating patient understanding of home dialysis products and treatment options.

Requirements

Successful candidates must have:

• Prior customer service, healthcare, and direct patient care experience.
• A combination of technical skills and genuine passion for developing deep relationships with patients.
• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) within the required state or CMS timeline.

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Certified by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
