Patient Care Technician -Surgical Medical Telemetry - Nights

Responsibilities

• Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding: Answering patient call lights, answering phones, assisting visitors, performing purposeful hourly rounding.
• Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Learning patient safe handling skills, assisting in ambulation, transferring, lifting, and repositioning patients using Safe Patient Handling equipment.
• Basic Nursing Care / ADLs: Providing basic care including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, using bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc., under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
• Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Performing procedures under the direction of the nurse, explaining and performing procedures, notifying appropriate personnel of responses and questions, collecting non-sterile specimens, performing point of care patient blood sugar testing, promoting and maintaining skin integrity.
• Care Companion / Sitter / Observer: Remaining with a patient as a means to keep the patient safe.
• Department Specific Tasks: Supporting the nursing team with indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment, answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results, etc.

Requirements

• Minimum Education Requirements: Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred; completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred.
• Minimum Licensure Requirements: Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by either American Heart Association.
• Physical Demands: Utilize appropriate patient movement equipment for patient-lifting and transfers when the transfer is a non-emergency situation. Wear an N95 mask/PAPR and other PPE.
• Technical Skills: Basic computer skills required.
