About The Role
This position will primarily support our Inpatient Pre-Operative Holding Area, with cross-training opportunities in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to provide additional support as needed. As a valued member of the perioperative team, you'll play a critical role in preparing patients for surgery and ensuring a smooth care experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Transporting patients safely throughout the perioperative setting
- Applying telemetry monitors and assisting with patient preparation
- Obtaining capillary blood glucose measurements
- Managing and stocking essential supplies
- Assisting nurses with patient care activities and procedures
- Monitoring and reporting changes in patient condition
- Supporting quality, safety, and patient-centered care initiatives
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver outstanding care
What You'll Do
As a Patient Care Technician Senior, you'll provide compassionate bedside care while utilizing advanced technical skills, including:
- Vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, specimen collection, Foley care, and intake/output monitoring
- Assisting patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, ambulation, toileting, and repositioning
- Telemetry monitoring and application
- Patient transportation, including monitored patients
- Performing advanced competencies based on department needs, such as:
- 12-Lead EKGs
- Phlebotomy
- Bladder scans
- Foley catheter removal
- IV catheter removal
- Point-of-care testing
- Basic arrhythmia recognition
- Other specialized patient care skills
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet requirements of Patient Care Technician title, OR
- 1 year of experience (defined above) and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR
- 1 year of experience (defined above) and completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field
- Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire
- Successful completion of patient care technician senior class
- Successful completion of eRecord training
Preferred Qualifications
- Nursing Student that has completed one clinical rotation preferred
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred
- May require successful completion of the appropriate UPMC cardiac rhythm course as determined by organizational guidelines and unit-based clinical operations
Licensure and Certifications
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- ACLS preferred
- Act 34 clearance required
