About the role

Geisinger is offering a Patient Care Technician position with a $1,500 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates, a minimum hiring rate of $18.94 per hour (with higher rates for experienced staff) and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. The role also includes up to $40,000 in financial support to pursue nursing education.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced patient care duties under RN supervision, including advanced dressing care, suctioning, Foley catheter and peripheral IV removal.
• Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens per CLSI guidelines.
• Handle daily storage, preparation, and delivery of breast milk, infant and pediatric formulas.
• Document patient information to create complete and accurate medical records.
• Identify, observe, and document patient physical needs per established standards; report changes to licensed personnel promptly.
• Obtain and maintain specimen integrity per policy and physician orders.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, hygiene, and linen changes.
• Provide one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned.
• Process and transport specimens to the laboratory accurately and timely.
• Perform point‑of‑care testing, instrument maintenance, and quality control.
• Troubleshoot equipment and supplies, taking corrective measures.
• Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students.
• Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths; facilitate patient throughput.
