Patient Care Technician (PCT, EMT, CNA) Med/Surg
Location: Backus Hospital (Norwich, CT)
About the Role
Under the supervision of a Nurse Leader, the Patient Care Tech performs specific duties that support patient care, including direct and indirect patient care activities essential to providing a safe and efficient care environment. This position performs selected interventions and activities contributing to comprehensive patient care in accordance with regulatory and hospital standards, policies, and procedures. Along with the care team, this role ensures a positive patient experience.
This position operates in a high-activity work environment with multiple priorities and requires flexibility in scheduling. Additional responsibilities and career advancement opportunities are available through a clinical ladder for Patient Care Techs based on experience, skillsets, and certifications.
Responsibilities
- Support patient care through direct and indirect activities.
- Perform interventions and tasks contributing to comprehensive patient care.
- Ensure a safe and efficient care environment in compliance with regulatory and hospital standards.
- Collaborate with the care team to ensure a positive patient experience.
- Adapt to a fast-paced work environment with shifting priorities.
Qualifications
- No prior experience required; on-site training provided.
- Successful completion of PCT-specific Hartford HealthCare (HHC) orientation.
- Certified BLS Provider credential from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 2 months (60 days) of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Relevant experience in an acute care hospital environment.
- Current certified BLS Provider credential from the AHA.
- Certification as a CNA, CPCT/A, EMT, or CMA to qualify for advancement in the PCT clinical ladder.
