Job Description
As a Patient Care Technician at Fresenius Medical Care, you will support and collaborate with Registered Nurses (RNs) in providing dialysis treatment to multiple patients at a time. Your responsibilities include:
- Assist in the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines
- Prep and test equipment before treatment sessions
- Review treatment sheets and open clinics at 4 AM for first shift
- Obtain and review vital signs and weights before and after treatment
- Initiate and monitor dialysis treatments according to prescribed orders
- Evaluate and intervene for intradialytic problems
- Document patient responses and treatment outcomes
- Ensure proper safety alarms are enabled and maintained
- Prepare and organize supplies and equipment
- Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision
- Train applicable direct patient care staff on appropriate programs
- Follow infection control practices and educate patients/families
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Certified by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) within the required state or CMS timeline
- State licensure, education, and training (if any) required
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
- Successful completion of the organization's dialysis training program and CPR certification
