Patient Care Technician - PCT
Overview
Fresenius Medical Care is seeking Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) to support and collaborate with Registered Nurses (RNs) in providing dialysis treatment to several patients at a time. This role involves prepping and testing equipment, reviewing treatment sheets, and opening clinics early in the morning.
Job Description
Patient Care Technicians support and collaborate with RNs to provide dialysis treatment to multiple patients. Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines.
- Prep and test equipment, review treatment sheets, and open clinics early in the morning.
- Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform vascular access cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law.
- Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight, and perform vascular access evaluation pre-treatment.
- Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy, and document all interventions.
- Ensure appropriate safety alarms are enabled, including Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160.
- Complete and document ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
- Prepare and organize supplies to prevent wastage.
- Monitor patients performing self-care under the supervision of RNs.
Success Profile
A qualified candidate should have prior customer service, healthcare, and direct patient care experience. They should also have a combination of technical skills and genuine passion for developing deep relationships with patients and improving their quality of life.
