About the role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in patient and family centered care at Jefferson Health. They interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff, recognizing and respecting the unique needs of each patient, their family, and designated care partners.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistently with Jefferson’s values.
• Provides safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on respect for patient preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs.
• Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family, and designated care partners.
• Performs designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs under the direction of licensed clinical team members.
• Maintains a safe patient care environment.
• May be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs.
• Assists in maintaining supplies and equipment to support efficient unit operations.

Requirements

Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs, and roles in interprofessional teams. Ability to complete delegated tasks within the scope of the role. Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life. Knowledge of risks in a healthcare environment and steps to reduce these risks. Knowledge of respecting and collaborating with patients, families, and designated care partners. Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques. Ability to engage patients and families in their health and healthcare. BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association.

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
• Frequent to continuous standing/walking.
• Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift.
• Activities such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR may be required.
