About the role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Jefferson Health provides direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of licensed clinical team members. The role emphasizes patient-centered care, respecting individual uniqueness, physiological, emotional, and social needs, and fostering a safe, compassionate, and coordinated care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff in alignment with Jefferson’s values.
  • Recognizes and respects patients, their family/designated care partners, and provides safe, compassionate, and coordinated care.
  • Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family, and designated care partners.
  • Performs designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs under the direction of licensed clinical team members.
  • Maintains a safe patient care environment.
  • May be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs.
  • Provides assistance in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs, and role in interprofessional team.
  • Ability to complete delegated tasks within scope of role.
  • Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life and ability to apply this knowledge to patients.
  • Knowledge of risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment and ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, ability to effectively transmit, receive, and interpret information.
  • Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of BLS (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association.
  • Frequent to continuous standing/walking.
  • Lifts and carries up to 50 lbs. (requires 29 lbs. push force).
  • Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift.
  • Physical demands include kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.

Skills

Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and health care.

Pay

The actual hiring rate will be determined based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is not eligible for an annual incentive. Positions posted as annual salaries reflect an estimated amount for a 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE).
