About the role
The Patient Care Technician - Orthopedic Unit position offers a range of benefits including premium pay, incentive pay, and opportunities for annual increases based on performance.
Responsibilities
- Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc.
- Assists with exercising and ambulating patient; utilizes correct body mechanics while assisting with patient mobility; maintains physical safety and comfort of patient under supervision of a RN/LPN.
- Obtains patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, and reports abnormalities to the nurse.
- As directed by RN/LPN performs procedures such as EKG’s, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc.
- Collections specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary.
- Documents basic patient care into electronic medical record.
- Aids nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed.
- Adequately answers unit phones and can effectively direct phone calls to the appropriate parties.
- May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
Requirements
- Education: Completion of an accredited CNA course and the successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with the completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation.
- Certification/License: Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
Qualifications
- Must be able to attend a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Orientation from about 8:00am - 4:30pm, during the first week of employment.
- Hours: 7:00am - 7:30pm (3 - 12 hour shifts), every other weekend and holidays required.

Pay
The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.
Schedule
Hours: 7:00am - 7:30pm (3 - 12 hour shifts), every other weekend and holidays required.
