Patient Care Technician - Observation/Transition Unit

Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Observation/Transition Unit. This is a Part Time, Rotating Shift (12-hour shift) position. Candidates must be flexible to work either Day or Night shifts. Day shift scheduled work hours are 7:00am to 7:00pm. Night shift scheduled work hours are 7:00pm to 7:00am.

Department Overview

The Observation and Short Stay unit is a 21-bed unit caring for patients under 24-48 hour observation. We are seeking new grads or experienced candidates to join this team-oriented unit!

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living
• Vital signs, mobility and ambulation
• Phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal
• Complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse
• Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff

Qualifications

HS Diploma or Equivalent (Required) and one of the following required:

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT
• Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant

Certification

• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire

Experience

• One year of health care experience (Preferred)
