Responsibilities
- Aids in the delivery of patient care by performing specific patient care tasks per scope of service and as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Aids with admissions, transfers, discharges, and transport of patients.
- Obtains and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, weight, and blood glucose testing. Reports abnormalities and condition changes to the primary nurse promptly.
- Demonstrates competence in advanced skills such as oral suctioning, enemas (no Fleets enemas), clean dressings after a RN assessment, tube feeding set-up, external catheter (condom catheter), post-mortem care, and suction canister set-up.
- Communicates effectively and frequently with the health care team members to share information and solve problems in a positive and result-oriented manner both verbally and electronically.
- Documents legibly on all hospital forms using standardized abbreviations.
- Gets patient report from the RN and off-going PCT at the beginning of the shift. Gives end-of-shift report to the primary nurse and oncoming PCT at the end of the shift.
- Participates in walking rounds with the oncoming and off-going PCT at shift change.
- Provides personalized care to patients and families. Identifies and documents special needs on the patient rounding sheet.
- Utilizes available educational materials, programs, nursing literature, and resource personnel for career development and attends mandatory in-services to maintain unit competencies.
- Utilizes material, equipment, and time in a safe, therapeutic, and cost-effective manner.
- Aids with appropriate tasks in all code situations (i.e., CPR, obtaining equipment, etc.) under the direction of the Code Blue Team.
- Adheres to organizational infection control practices and policies and to established safety and security policies, including using two (2) identifiers whenever taking blood samples or performing any procedure.
- Maintains and models REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor).
- Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- PCT I: High school diploma or GED. AHA BLS healthcare provider certification required within 90 days from DOH.
- PCT II: High school diploma or GED. AHA BLS provider certification course required within 90 days from date of hire. Minimum of three (3) months experience as a PCT or currently in a junior semester of an Associates or Bachelor’s nursing program. Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Requirements: General knowledge of high school subject matter including sciences, simple medical procedures/terminology, and office equipment.
Qualifications
- BLS certification is required 90 days’ from date of hire.
