Patient Care Technician - Neurology Unit - Nights

About the role

The Patient Care Technician - Neurology Unit position is available nights in Arlington Heights, IL. This full-time position requires attending a mandatory orientation and must be available for weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, using bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc.
• Assists with exercising and ambulating patients; uses correct body mechanics while assisting with patient mobility; maintains physical safety and comfort of the patient under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
• Obtains patient vital signs, input and output checks, and accu-checks, and reports any abnormalities to the nurse.
• Performs procedures such as EKG’s, perineal care, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc., as directed by RN/LPN.
• Captures specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary.
• Documents basic patient care into the electronic medical record.
• Aids nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating, transporting, and observing patients to ensure safety as directed.
• Adequately answers unit phones and can effectively direct phone calls to the appropriate parties.
• May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited CNA course and successful completion of the CNA certification exam, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation.
• Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Pay

The hourly pay range is $18.84 - $27.32, determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience.

Schedule

Position is full-time, 36 hours per week, with shifts from 7:00pm-7:30am, every other weekend.
