Patient Care Technician, MICU A, 24 Hours (Days / Rotating Weekends/Holidays)

About the role

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is a Magnet® recognized organization dedicated to delivering exceptional and equitable care to all. The Critical Care/Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU A & B) at BMC provides care to the most acute medical patients, including those with multisystem failure, renal failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and sepsis. As a Patient Care Technician in this department, you will play a crucial role in supporting the healthcare team and providing direct clinical and support services to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions, such as obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and providing emotional support.
• Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care department, ensuring a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED certificate
• Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
• Ability to pass clinical competency testing
• Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
• Basic math and computer proficiency
• One of the following: one year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting, currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation, completed an approved Patient Care Technician training, completed an approved certified medical assistant training, one year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)
• Fluency in another language a plus
• Previous medical/surgical experience preferred
