About the Role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of the licensed clinical team members. Responsibilities

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
• Recognizes patients, their family, or designated care partners in providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
• Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family, and designated care partners.
• Performs designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs under the direction of licensed clinical team members.
• Actively promotes and maintains a safe patient care environment.
• May be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate based on campus needs.
• Provides assistance in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs, and their role in the interprofessional team.
• Ability to complete delegated tasks within the scope of the role.
• Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, and the ability to apply this knowledge to patients daily.
• Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
• Ability to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family, and/or designated care partner in care.
• Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to connect effectively.
• Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, and the ability to transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs accurately.
• Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and healthcare.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry 40-50 lbs (e.g., push/pull patients on a bed or stretcher requiring 29 lbs. push force, lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight).
• Frequent to continuous standing and walking (patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles per shift).
• May be required to perform activities specific to the role, including kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.

Pay

Hourly salary range: $17.00 to $22.98. The actual hiring rate will be determined based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is not eligible for an annual incentive.
