About the role
The Patient Care Technician II assists the nursing staff by performing assigned duties for patient and staff under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Duties include secretarial functions and NA II skills.
Responsibilities
- Assists with patient care activities as directed by the nursing staff.
- Performs secretarial functions such as typing, filing, and answering phones.
- Supports nurses in managing patient records and documentation.
- Ensures confidentiality of patient information.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Maintains a calm and professional demeanor during stressful situations.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures related to patient care and confidentiality.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalency required.
- Nurses Aide I certification listed with Division of Facility Services and Nurses Aide II certification by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
- Some understanding of medical terminology.
- At least one year of experience in an acute care setting, either as a unit secretary or as a Nurses Aide I or Nurses Aide II.
- Current AHA BLS certification required.
- Ability to organize confidential clerical responsibilities and patient care, maintaining workflow despite interruptions and changing priorities.
- Ability to relate effectively to patients, their families, physicians, staff, and all others using proper channels of communication.
- Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status.

- Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the nursing unit(s).
