About the role
The Patient Care Tech I assists the nursing staff by performing assigned duties for patients and staff under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Duties include, but are not limited to, secretarial functions and some basic nursing skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform secretarial functions including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and managing patient records.
- Assist nurses with patient care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and providing basic hygiene assistance.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and healthcare providers to ensure clear and accurate information exchange.
- Organize and maintain confidential patient information and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support the nursing team by providing administrative support and ensuring smooth workflow during peak times.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalency.
- Completion of third year in the AA Early College Program of a community college and provide transcripts to HR.
- Nurses Aide I certificate listed with the North Carolina Department of Facilities Services.
- One year of experience in an acute care setting, preferably as a unit secretary or Nurse Aide I.
- Understanding of medical terminology.
- Able to organize and manage confidential clerical responsibilities.
- Able to relate effectively to patients, their families, physicians, staff, and all others using proper communication channels.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret necessary information to identify patient requirements.
- Compliance with unit, area, and department policies and procedures.
