Patient Care Technician - General Medicine

Department: General Medicine 5800 • Location: Rochester General Hospital • Hours Per Week: 36

About the role

Provides direct or indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans as determined or delegated by a licensed nurse or RN. Assists with tasks necessary for the general management and organization of the patient care unit, being flexible to meet patient and/or unit needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and indirect activities to facilitate unit functioning.
• Participate as a member of the care delivery team.
• Provide safe and competent care for patients related to nutritional needs, skin integrity, elimination, and hygiene including bathing, grooming, and changing bed linens.
• Take patient vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pain level.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills, compassion, and support for patients and their family members.
• Model teamwork through exceptional communication with members of the care delivery team.
• Assist with ambulation, feeding, transferring, or lifting of patients.
• Assist with the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
• Perform clerical duties including transcription and maintenance of patient charts.
• Assist patients with mobility, such as sitting, standing, and walking.
• (Cath lab only) Stock rooms, handle meds, sharps, and syringes on the OR field.

Requirements

• Minimum age requirement: 18
• Completion of one of the following preferred:
  • Nursing Fundamentals course
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
  • Experience as a medical assistant/technician in a health-related facility
  • Participation in a Patient Care Technician training program
• Excellent customer service and communication skills

Qualifications

• Associates degree (preferred)

Physical Requirements

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting.

Pay

Pay Range: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
