Patient Care Technician, Full-Time, Days

About the role
The Patient Care Technician provides patient care and supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, while complying with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and support activities of daily living
- Measure and record vital signs
- Assist with mobility and ambulation
- Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection
- Conduct point-of-care testing
- Perform EKG testing
- Remove peripheral IVs
- Insert and remove foley catheters
- Comply with patient safety practices
- Observe and document patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions
- Report changes in patient condition to nursing or medical staff
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required, plus one of the following:
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
- Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
- Emergency services credentials (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic)
- Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT, or PT
- Current work experience within the last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Pay
Base pay range for full-time employment: $18.93 – $27.41 per hour. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range varies based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
