About the Unit
The Burn Treatment Center and Intermediate Care Unit (8 JCP) is a 17-bed unit equipped with a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy room for burn/wound dressing care, a pediatric playroom, and a rehabilitation gym. The unit cares for both adult and pediatric burn patients as well as an adult trauma population requiring intermediate monitoring care. The unit has both inpatient and outpatient (Burn Clinic) facilities. Our staff also provide burn outreach and education and annually host a Burn Camp for burn patient survivors. The American College of Surgeons designated our unit as a Level I Burn Center since 1996.
Responsibilities
- Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure
- Carry out medical asepsis when performing skills and tasks including but not limited to phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, and Foley catheter removal and cares for patients who are medically isolated
- Perform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative preparation of the skin, dressing changes, collecting specimens, applying binders, braces, etc.
- Perform special duties as taught and directed by the nurse in charge including but not limited to phlebotomy, ECG lead/12 lead placement, and brace/pin site cares
- Assist with patient admission, transfers, and discharges
- Directly provide for patients' personal hygiene and comfort
- Turn, position, and ambulate patients
- Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies
- Feed patients, serve drinking water and nourishments, and record patients' intake
- Assist patients with bedpans and urinals and record output
- Participate in nursing care conferences; report pertinent patient information and incidents to nurse in charge
- Provide for patient comfort measures through social interactions
- Share responsibility for preparation, proper use, and care of equipment and supplies, and for neatness and cleanliness of unit
- May assemble and maintain equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by physicians or nurses
- Clean areas per designated guidelines and standards demonstrating proper use of approved disinfectants, cleaning products, and care of the housekeeping equipment
- Stock and supply patient rooms and nursing units
Qualifications
Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
Schedule
- 90% time - 36 hours per week
- Day and Night shifts, will include an every other weekend rotation and every other holiday rotation
