Patient Care Technician - Behavioral Health

Schedule

• Full-time, night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• 72 hours per pay period
• Weekends required
• No on-call duty

About the Role

As directed by the team leader and the Registered Nurse, and in partnership with the healthcare team and patient/family, you will perform work processes to achieve positive patient outcomes and organizational goals. The provision of care focuses on psychosocial support and activities of daily living.

Responsibilities

• Care for patients by demonstrating clinical competence in implementing a plan of care.
• Maintain basic technician skills, including obtaining vital signs, performing dressing changes, wound care, catheterizations, and EKGs as required.
• Report observations, including any change in patient status, to the Registered Nurse in a timely and accurate manner.
• Perform phlebotomy as directed by the Nurse, using proper patient identification, draw technique, labeling process, and submission to the lab. Follow infection control and safety procedures, and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
• Perform interventions to enhance psychosocial support.
• Provide care supporting physical function for activities of daily living, such as toileting, bathing, feeding, and ambulation.
• Document care according to hospital and unit-specific guidelines to accurately reflect care provided immediately after performing procedures or tasks.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of a state-approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program, OR active licensure as a Nurse Assistant (CNA) in the state of Michigan AND completion of a Phlebotomy Training Program.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, valid at least 60 days beyond the start date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Patient Care Technician/Assistant certification (CPCT/A) through NHA (National Healthcareer Association).
• Prior work experience in a direct patient care role in a hospital environment.
