Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Technician II (Pediatric) performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Perform therapeutic procedures and make accurate physical observations of patients.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Work irregular hours under stressful conditions, including rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends.
- Complete on-line course modules, phlebotomy training, and skills validation for basic and advanced skills within two months of hire (80% passing rate required).
- Maintain reliable attendance and complete annual competencies such as BLS certification.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency with at least one year of patient care experience in a health care facility; or a Certified Nursing Assistant; or successful completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant course at an accredited institution; or EMT or Paramedic certification; or a Bachelor’s degree.
- At least 1 year of work experience in a .6 FTE PCT I position at MUSC CHS or 1 year of patient care work experience in a health care facility; or a college degree; or active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution; or active enrollment in a healthcare-related field from an accredited institution; or a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant certification, or equivalent training.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 2 weeks of hire. Must maintain current BLS certification from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
