Job Description

The Patient Care Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

• Aids in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
• Takes and records vital signs, weight, and blood pressure.
• Maintains accurate intake and output records, including those from drains.
• Applies cardiac monitors, oximeters, and performs EKGs.
• Performs newborn hearing screenings and capillary blood glucose tests.
• Administers enemas and collects specimens.
• Assists with patient rounds, meal distribution, and bathing.
• Provides peri-care and newborn care, including feeding and foot print assessments.
• Prepares beds, ambulates patients, and provides safety measures.
• Applies dressings and prepares rooms for procedures.
• Transports patients and equipment, responds to emergencies, and performs post-mortem care.
• Carefully documents observations and reports changes in patient condition promptly.
• Assists with patient care and unit operations, such as inventory management and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications

• CNA certification or enrollment in a SON with successful completion of basic clinical rotations.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• Unit-based recognition for capillary blood glucose monitoring.
• High school diploma required.
• One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing, and medical staff.
