About the Role
The Patient Care Tech (PCT), under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well-being, including concepts of relationship-based care.
This role operates within the Short Stay department, which has 43 rooms (22 bays and 21 private rooms with doors and bathrooms). The unit primarily treats adult patients (18+) who are post-surgical or post-procedural. Length of stay varies: post-op patients typically stay 24-48 hours, while observation and inpatient status patients may stay up to a week or longer.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, feeding, and menu selection.
- Collect and send specimens, including blood and blood cultures.
- Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
- Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long-term care) or successful completion of a CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
- Student nurses must have completed the nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.
Schedule
- Shifts available:
- 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM
- 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Full-time and part-time positions available.
- Every other weekend and holiday work required per year for full-time and part-time team members.
