About the role
Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is a leading hospital in Missouri, recognized for its Magnet Hospital certification for nursing excellence. The 163PCU is a specialized surgical progressive care unit with 19 beds, serving acutely ill surgical patients and managing critical care needs across various specialties.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, focusing on patient and family centered care.
- Administers or assists with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention, urinary catheter care, and point of care testing.
- Captures and reports clinical data and changes in patient status to the nursing team.
- Affords assistance with patient and family education.
- Documents all patient care activities accurately using correct medical terminology.
- Serves as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as needed.
- Maintains availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient’s needs.
- Participates in activities aimed at enhancing patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Engages in professional development opportunities.
Requirements
- No prior experience is required.
- Preferred qualifications include experience as a CNA, nurse assistant, EMT, or surgical technician.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
Skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to maintain patient safety and well-being.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology.

Pay
Eligible for 36 hours per week, nights from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am, with holiday and weekend rotations.
