About the Role
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Uptown is a joint-venture surgical hospital providing a wide range of medical and surgical services to the greater North Texas area. This role involves organizing and directing pre-admission activities in accordance with nursing standards, Joint Commission, Medicare, and other applicable federal, state, and local guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Contact physician offices, physicians, and patients by telephone prior to the date of surgery.
- Perform EKGs per doctor’s orders.
- Review patient charts for appropriate lab, x-ray, and EKG results.
- Supply physician offices with lab, x-ray, and EKG reports via fax, email, or e-fax.
- Ensure all appropriate orders, consents, medical and medication histories, and testing results are completed and in the patient’s chart prior to the date of service.
- Communicate abnormal results and medical issues to appropriate personnel and physicians.
- Provide pre-operative instructions tailored to the individual and treatment.
- Answer questions from patients and physician offices.
- Provide clinical documentation.
- Assist in the registration of pre-admission patients.
- Obtain vital signs and perform EKGs with documented competency.
Requirements
- High school graduate or higher.
- Previous clinical experience strongly preferred.
- Current BLS certification.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- CNA certification preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
- Ability to adapt to change quickly and a strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient.
- Competency in performing EKGs and obtaining vital signs must be on file.
