Patient Care Tech | Pre-Admit Testing

About the Role

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Uptown is a joint-venture surgical hospital providing a wide range of medical and surgical services to the greater North Texas area. This role involves organizing and directing pre-admission activities in accordance with nursing standards, Joint Commission, Medicare, and other applicable federal, state, and local guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Contact physician offices, physicians, and patients by telephone prior to the date of surgery.
• Perform EKGs per doctor’s orders.
• Review patient charts for appropriate lab, x-ray, and EKG results.
• Supply physician offices with lab, x-ray, and EKG reports via fax, email, or e-fax.
• Ensure all appropriate orders, consents, medical and medication histories, and testing results are completed and in the patient’s chart prior to the date of service.
• Communicate abnormal results and medical issues to appropriate personnel and physicians.
• Provide pre-operative instructions tailored to the individual and treatment.
• Answer questions from patients and physician offices.
• Provide clinical documentation.
• Assist in the registration of pre-admission patients.
• Obtain vital signs and perform EKGs with documented competency.

Requirements

• High school graduate or higher.
• Previous clinical experience strongly preferred.
• Current BLS certification.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• CNA certification preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred.
• Ability to adapt to change quickly and a strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient.
• Competency in performing EKGs and obtaining vital signs must be on file.
