About the Role

Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient's highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.

Unit Details

Cardiac Med Intermediate Patient Care Tech position at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus, MO 63028. 24 hours per week, Nights.

This unit is also known as the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — an intermediate unit that is a step down from intensive care but a step above med/surg as far as patient acuity. Patient populations include cardiac, respiratory distress, and septic. No vents. Primarily serve cardiac patients, also acute respiratory (no vents, but high flow O2 needs/new BiPAP, etc.), then a mix of any other disease process in which physicians determine the patient is too sick for the floor but not yet ICU level of care.

Fast paced unit combining aspects of ED and ICU into one department — the busyness of ED and the critical care aspect of ICU. Requires and builds strong assessment skills and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma, G.E.D., CNA/CPCT, or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.
  • Experience: If no previous experience, Mercy will provide a required 175-hour training program that meets the state of practice Department of Health and Senior Services requirements. The program will be completed as part of the new hire orientation process and must be completed within 90 days of hire to remain in the PCT position per state guidelines.
  • Certifications: BLS Required within one month of hire; completion of PCT competencies within 3 months of hire.
  • Other:
    • Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
    • Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
    • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

Preferred Experience & Certifications

  • Preferred Experience: EMT, Paramedic, or previous patient care experience.
  • Preferred Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
