About the role

The Patient Care Tech (PCT), under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care.

Nursing staff on the 3 North Mother/Baby Unit provide individualized care to postpartum women and newborns within the context of family and relationship centered care. The patient population consists of women in the early postpartum period and their normal newborns or uncomplicated late preterm newborns, women who chose to be cared for on the MB unit following a newborn loss, and women who are readmitted to the hospital within 6 weeks postpartum. The unit consists of 34 adult beds and 42 nursery beds.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients in completing ADLs including: bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, and feeding/menu selection.
• Collect and send specimens including blood and blood cultures.
• Insert and remove peripheral IV catheters.
• Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements.
• Help families adapt to the change of having a newborn in their household by providing education.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Every other weekend and holiday per year required for part-time team members.

Pay

Minimum rate of pay: $16.29 per hour plus daily pay.
