About the role
The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports activities of daily living, monitors vital signs, performs phlebotomy, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, all under the direction of the professional RN nurse. They observe patients' conditions, document accurately, and report changes to the nurse or medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Provides patient care, supports activities of daily living
- Maintains vital signs
- Performs phlebotomy, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal
- Collects specimens, inserts and removes Foley catheters
- Reports any changes to the nurse or medical staff
- Observes and documents patient conditions accurately
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- One of the following certifications:
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
- Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
- Emergency Services including EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic
- Current student enrolled in a clinical program beyond prerequisites with at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT, or PT
- Current work experience as a PCT or Nursing Assistant within the past three years
Qualifications
