About the role
The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility and ambulation, phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, and complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any changes to the nurse or medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living
- Takes vital signs
- Mobility and ambulation support
- Performs phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal
- Complies with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse
- Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and documents in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any changes to the nurse or medical staff
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- One of the following certifications:
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
- Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
- Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
- Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
- Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT
- Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
Qualifications
- Education: HS Diploma or Equivalent
- Certification/Licensure: Basic Life Support Certification
