About the Role
Under the day-to-day direction of the on-duty nurse practitioner or physician assistant, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) maximizes patient flow through the clinic while providing a stellar patient experience. This role performs administrative tasks, including electronic health record (EHR) documentation, in accordance with company policy. Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining a safe, quality-based, survey-ready healthcare environment to uphold Joint Commission Accreditation.
- Greet customers and potential patients in the front area or near the clinic.
- Clean and organize the clinic space daily, including trash removal, supply management, floor cleaning, examination room sanitation, and equipment disinfection.
- Answer patient questions while adhering to HIPAA guidelines; consult providers for questions outside the scope of services.
- Manage waiting room flow using the Patient Queue, Appointment Tool, and Patient Kiosk systems.
- Complete patient registration, verify identities using government-issued IDs, and process payments (e.g., prompt pay, vouchers, insurance).
- Collect and log insurance information in the EHR; scan documents or alert providers for completion.
- Escort patients to exam rooms, determine chief complaints, and obtain vital signs and patient history (in clinics with completed competencies).
- Guide waiting patients on registration, wait times, services, and payment methods.
- Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and return patient/provider calls; complete daily patient callbacks per policy.
- Prepare for off-site events as needed.
- Assemble weekly supply orders for provider approval; prepare lab specimens and mail for shipping.
- If assigned as a float, travel to designated clinics within a specified geographic area.
- Advanced PCTs with completed competencies may assist providers in obtaining specimens and reporting negative lab results per company protocols.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Basic math skills (e.g., counting, addition, subtraction).
- Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
- Strong customer service, organizational, and task-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in retail, customer service, or healthcare.
- Knowledge of infection control practices.
