Responsibilities
- Assist with delivering patient care, including obtaining vital signs, feeding, toileting, hygiene care, finger-stick blood sugar readings, maintaining skin integrity, performing EKGs, and ambulating and transferring patients.
- Perform routine procedures such as surgical skin preps and enemas.
- Schedule diagnostic procedures, tests, and appointments, coordinating orders with physicians, charge nurses, caregivers, ancillary departments, and other facilities.
- Answer call lights promptly and notify appropriate personnel of patient needs.
- Demonstrate service excellence to assist the unit in meeting patient satisfaction goals.
- Recognize significant changes in patient condition and take appropriate action.
- Collect data, report information, and perform interventions to improve quality issues.
- Obtain patient information and data while maintaining confidentiality.
- Order and enter charges for procedures, supplies, and equipment as applicable.
- Report problems or concerns to the appropriate person or department and assist in resolution when possible.
- Perform vital signs, height, weight, and visual acuity in triage.
- Assist with sterile field setup for suturing and procedures.
- Perform other patient care activities as trained and directed by the RN.
- Maintain flexibility, adaptability, and teamwork with positive professional communication and guest relations.
Requirements
- Previous hospital experience preferred.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Current BLS certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
