About the Role

Under the day-to-day direction of the on-duty nurse practitioner or physician assistant, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) maximizes patient flow through the clinic while providing a stellar patient experience. This role performs administrative tasks, including electronic health record (EHR) documentation, in accordance with company policy. Our team includes board-certified nurse practitioners, physician assistants, licensed practical nurses, and patient care technicians working together in convenient retail settings.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining a safe, quality-based, survey-ready healthcare environment to uphold Joint Commission Accreditation.
• Greet customers or potential patients in the front area or near the clinic.
• Clean and organize the clinic space daily, including taking out trash, logging and putting away supply orders, cleaning floors, examination rooms, and disinfecting equipment.
• Answer questions while adhering to HIPAA guidelines; consult with the provider for scope-of-service inquiries.
• Manage waiting room flow using the Patient Queue, Appointment Tool, and Patient Kiosk systems.
• Complete patient registration, verify identities using government-issued IDs, and determine payment methods (e.g., prompt pay, insurance, vouchers).
• Collect and log insurance information and payments in the EHR.
• Scan documents or alert providers if scanning is required.
• Escort patients to exam rooms, determine chief complaints, and obtain vital signs and patient history (in clinics with completed competencies).
• Guide waiting patients on registration, wait times, services, and payment methods.
• Answer phones, respond to questions, return patient/provider calls, and complete daily patient callbacks per policy.
• Prepare for off-site events as needed.
• Assemble weekly supply orders for provider approval; prepare packages, laboratory specimens, and mail for shipping.
• If assigned as a float, travel to designated clinics within a specified geographic area.
• Advanced PCTs with completed competencies may assist providers in obtaining specimens for testing and reporting negative labs per provider direction.

Requirements

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Basic math skills (e.g., counting, addition, subtraction).
• Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
• Strong customer service, organizational, and task-management skills.

Qualifications (Desired)

• Previous experience in retail, customer service, or healthcare.
• Knowledge of infection control practices.
